OVEL THIS SPOT - The surrender plaque, marking the spot where the formal Surrender of Japan to the Allied powers was signed, is a source of continual interest to visitors aboard the battleship MISSOURI. The 19 inch, bronze disc was installed late in 1945, when the MISSOURI returned from her first visit to the Far East. The historic surrender ceremony aboard the MISSOURI took place on September 2, 1945, just 19 months after then Missouri Senator Harry S. Truman predicted that the Mo would "...sail into Tokyo Bay."
